In the year 2000, MTN Cameroon planted its very first network pillar (also known as BTS) on Cameroonian soil. This was in the economic capital, Douala.

Today, the company is celebrating 12 years of continuous existence and service to the Cameroonian public, marked by the inauguration of its 1000th BTS site in Penda Mboko, a locality in the South West Region. It is in this light that MTN officials, stakeholders and sympathisers converged massively at the Akwa Head Office to witness the grandiose event.

Highlights of the one-day event included an introductory address by the company's Chief Executive Officer, Karl O. Toriola; which underlined the strides covered so far. The newly activated 70-metre high BTS site will provide extensive and high-tech network to approximately 18.000 people within 35 kilometres radiance in neighbouring villages, among which three strategic Cameroon Development Corporation (CDC) camps.

The release of 1000 symbolic balloons, a popping of champagnes and a motorcade immortalised the event.
