The first edition of the project was launched on Monday in Yaoundé and it aims inter alia at developing youth civic spirit and national integration.

This project includes thousands of youth, from the seven boroughs of the city of Yaoundé. These pupils and students gathered since Monday, in the gardens of the Congress Hall in Yaoundé for the launch of the project pilot 'Youth Village', one of the recent initiatives of the Ministry of Youth and Civic Education (Minjec).

This project is jointly sponsored by four other ministerial departments namely the Department of Arts and Culture (Minac), Ministry of secondary Education (Minesec), Basic Education (MOE) and higher education (Minesup).

And for good reason, the objectives of the project call for the pooling together of ideas and energies. It is precisely to promote the youth, citizenship, and national integration and also to develop in them the civic spirit etc.

The program for the young people included: dances, poems, fashion shows, skits. Not to mention outdoor fun sessions. Kindergarten to bigger youth wore some of the traditional outfits, masks of any kind and for others, they had paints on their bodies.

"It is a space that we offer to young people so that they can express their creativity," noted Marie Chantal Mazoume, Assistant Director of civic education in schools and the university at the Minjec.

This pilot phase ends February 9. The project which is expected to span the entire territory is a prelude to the celebration of the National Youth Day that kicks off February 11.
