Stakeholders in agriculture from all the ten regions of Cameroon are meeting in Bafoussam in a three-day workshop to acquire skills on new techniques to produce hybrid maize seeds.

The workshop scheduled to run till April 8, 2016 is jointly organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD).

An expert from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, explained that after stabilising the fall in maize production by using composite maize seeds, the Ministry and its partners want to increase production through hybrid farming.

In this new initiative, production will shift from four tonnes to nine tonnes per hectare.

The practical session of the workshop will take place on Friday 8th April 2016 at the IRAD farm in Foumbot.
