Inhabitants of the major towns in the country like Yaounde are yet to recover from the New Year day’s celebration.
The streets of Yaounde are experiencing little action this 2nd January 2015 with few people and vehicles on the move. The usual hustle and bustle of the season is fading out as people are resting after weeklong feasting.
Several bars are still closed down after an almost 24-hour service since 30th December 2014. Those businesses that are opened this day are yet to experience the customer traffic which was characteristic of the festive period.
“Bonjour” and the symbolic “Bonne Annee” was a sing song between those who were meeting for the first time since 2014.
August a taxi driver is deeply concerned about the slow-pace of the day, indicating how he encountered difficulties in changing a 5000 CFAF note he collected from a passenger.
Waste disposal is also a major issue this Friday 2nd January. Some parts of the town have been littered with plastic bags, empty cans and left-over food as an indication of the festive Wednesday and Thursday.
While some Cameroonians have made New Year resolutions they hope to guide them through the year others have expressed worry over the unauthorized increase in the prices of alcoholic beverages by wholesalers.
Medical and police authorities are not left out of the picture as their records reveal little or no casualties at the cross-over to 2015.
Other informed Cameroonians are still reminding themselves of President Paul Biya’s speech, while hoping for the best this 2015.
