Makthar Diop ends official visit today

The World Bank Vice President for Africa Region Makhtar Diop who has been on a working visit in Cameroon since July 21 leaves Cameroon this 24th July 2004.

He ends his visit in Douala where he is meeting actors of the private sector to continue discussions on how best the country can speed up its development process.


During the four day visit, he held talks with top government officials including the President of the Republic, Prime Minister and Head of government, and a number of Ministers in charge of economic development.


Another high point of the visit was the fact finding field trip to the Lom Pangar Hydro-electric dam, a project financed by France.

On each occasion, the World Bank official gave expert advice on how best the country’s economic policies could be implemented for more efficient results.


Also during the visit, Mr Diop signed two financing agreements with the government; the first, for the creation of a Centre of Excellence in Cameroon, and the second on a strategic transport project worth FCFA 44 billion aimed at reducing travel times and cost and improve on road safety for people and goods.


So far, some 14 investment projects estimated at 1,099.4 million dollars (about FCFA 549.7 billion) are being financed by the World Bank in Cameroon.
