Man burns daughter’s genital for wetting her bed

A certain Mohamadou Ali is reported to have burnt his daughter’s genital for wetting her bed several times. This incident occurred in Ngoundere in the Adamaoua Region.

Reports say Mr Mohamadou who was tired of seeing his 7year old girl urinate on her bed decided to burn her genital as a way of terminating the act.

After this terrible act, Mohamadou who had sensed his impending doom, attempted to escape but unfortunately was caught by the police in Ngoundere.

Little Mairama who is currently under medical care, will gradually have to recover from the wounds. Medical officials confirmed that the burns around her genitals will not affect her from reproducing in future.

Mohamadou is just a scape goat among many Cameroonian parents who device crude ways of punishing their kids for wetting the bed. Some would not go by Mohamadou’s method but rather use the “Pepper Method” (whereby parents tend to rub hot pepper on their children’s genitals for urinating on the bed).

This incident comes at a time when Cameroon is fully engaging in attempts to curb female genital mutilation which is defined by the World Health Organisation as a partial or total removal of the female external genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons.
