The corpse was brought down and buried by council officials.
Three weeks ago, the corpse of an adult was found by a hunter on the Buea Mountain. Upon discovery, the corpse was near decomposition. The hunter, Mwambo Ikomi, immediately alerted the Chief of Bokwaongo, His Royal Highness Chief Molua Mese who informed the Buea Sub-divisional Office and the municipal council.
After negotiations, a team of youths were sent to carry the corpse from the mountain. On July 13, the mortal remains reached the chief's palace in Bokwaongo and were later buried by council officials. According to the Bakweri tradition, it is forbidden to bury anything up the mountain as it is considered a sacred ground.
It would be recalled that in February 2010, the hunter's junior brother, John Mwambo equally found a corpse on the mountain. Being in a state of advanced decomposition, it was immediately brought down for burial. The family members were later traced thanks to the deceased's National Identity Card. Regarding the situation, Chief Molua and his councillors have reached a number of resolutions, aimed at regulating visits up the mountain.
In a radio announcement, they call on all who intend to go up the mountain to make sure they are identified. They should pass through the Ecotourism Office in Buea Town, the South West Regional Delegation of Tourism or the chief's palace. At press time, CT gathered that a lady was equally found around Hut II by some hunters. Fortunately, she was alive but ill. She was immediately rushed to the Buea Regional Hospital Annex for medical attention, after which her family members were contacted.
