Torrential rains in the Far North Region have caused flooding, leading to some material damage and interruption of the smooth flow of traffic along the major roads in the regional capital, Maroua.
The situation has instilled panic in inhabitants of the region who fear the condition may worsen when the rainy season actually sets in later in the month of September.
The floods have destroyed houses rendering many homeless and helpless. Even some agricultural produce was destroyed alongside plantations.
In order to assess the gravity of damage, the Governor of the Far North Region, Midjiyawa Bakary visited the affected zones.
During his visit, the Governor assured the distressed population that the situation is under control.
