Accredited journalists for media coverage of the visit of the Italian President were abandoned at the Ministry of Communication.
According to the Daily newspaper Emergence on newsstands of March 21, 2016, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, Minister of Communication (MINCOM) did not fulfill his role during the state vidit of the Italian President.
“The communication minister did everything to discredit the bilateral cooperation between Cameroon and Italy.
Accredited journalists for the event were downright abandoned at the main plaza of the Ministry of Communication last Saturday when they had to go to Mbalmayo, as part of another joint visit of Sergio Mattarela” writes Emergence newspaper.
We learn from the columns of the newspaper that some journalists found themselves obliged to storm the main entrance of the Ministry to show their discontent.
“We are here since 6 am. The Ministry officials have abandoned us, promising us that another bus was coming. It is more than 9 am and still yet nothing. What caught our attention is that all ministry officials left with the first bus, “says the editor of a Pan-African press.
The MINCOM staff present that day were equally not happy like the journalists were.
“We do not understand this way of doing things. That’s a MINCOM bus parked there. But they say there is no fuel in it ‘, “said a staff of the Ministry that requires anonymity.
The newspaper concluded that “unfortunately even knowing the number of accredited journalists, the Minister of Communications could not make arrangements to transport journalists he invited himself.“
