Five people have died and several others seriously wounded in a ghastly motor accident that occurred on Friday September 4, 2015 at about midday at Nomayos, near Mbankomo in the outskirts of the town of Yaounde.

Eye witness account blames the violent head-on collision between a heavy-duty truck from Douala and a thirty sitter bus driving from Yaounde on excessive speed and the drunken start of the truck driver.

It is alleged that the truck driver slept off while driving. It is reported that the truck driver is under custody at the Mbankomo Gendarmerie Station in a bid to prevent him from being killed by an angry mob.

The Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Mbankomo said immediately the accident occurred, he contacted the Director General of the Yaounde Emergency Centre and passengers that were seriously wounded were transferred to the centre.

Men from the Centre Regional Gendarmerie Legion were on hand to convey the corpses of the deceased to the mortuary of the Yaounde Central hospital. The SDO called on the families of the accident victims to take heart especially given the shocking state of some of their loved ones which cannot be traced due to the shattered nature of their bodies.

Eyewitnesses indicate that the accident scene was horrendous as water was used to wash off blood from the road before other vehicles could pass across.
