The President General of the Mbonge Cultural and Development Organization, MECDO, Justice Abednego Bea Kalla, has assured the people that a producers’ cooperative with branches in 44 villages in Mbonge and Konye Subdivisions in Meme Division of the South West Region, will go operational this year.

He made the pronouncement at the 41st cultural celebration that took place at Big Nganjo in Mbonge Subdivision. “The cooperative,” according to the President General, “will enable farmers to sell their agricultural produce at better prices.”

The cultural celebration that took place on the theme, "Mbonge And Higher Education," was under the watchful eyes of the Second Assistant Senior Divisional Officer for Meme, Nelson Yongkuma Gamsi.

Welcoming the over 5,000 participants and dignitaries, the President General re-echoed the plan of his executive to ensure that the people of Mbonge do not continue to suffer the intrigues of middlemen in the sale of their produce. Justice Bea reiterated the commitment of his team in the last five years to ensure that the people become self-reliant.

He boasted of the creation of the Mbonge Cooperative Credit Union, which has been affiliated to the CAMCCUL network, scholarships offered to Mbonge students in higher institutions, girl child education promoted; amongst others.
