Following the discovery of 10 carcasses of elephants last week, the operation 'Peace at Bouba-Ndjidda' has been reactivated.
The permanent monitoring system led by the 4th Battalion in Bouba-Ndjidda and the Rapid Intervention Battalion, found on 14 January last, 10 carcasses of elephants.
This macabre discovery followed the information according to which individuals and suspicious traces were sighted January 3, 2015, at the edge of the protected area. Attracted by gunfire coming from the designated area, the elements of the defence forces found the carcasses, confirming the thesis of the presence of poachers in the Park.
Therefore, 'Peace at Bouba-Ndjidda’ operation was reactivated, with the same device in 2012, namely the elements of the 4th BIR, reinforced by the 31st brigade of motorized infantry and air force base 301 Garoua.
"All these defence forces are currently deployed in the Park and they control key areas. Air operations are also conducted", suggested an internal source at the 3rd joint military region.
According to this same source, "no suspicious activity of these poachers has been registered since January 14, 2015, date of the discovery of 10 carcasses of elephants".
However, the high rank of the Cameroonian army who requested anonymity denounces the niggardly attitude of the riverain populations whose collaboration has been mixed. However, he reassured the normal conduct of tourism activities in the different sites of the national park.
