Memorial for Aids Victims Launched

The 19th edition of the Candlelight Memorial will be celebrated nationwide on Sunday May 27, 2012.

Ahead of this important event, the Treatment Access Watch organised a press conference in Yaounde on the theme "Access to treatment for People Living with HIV/AIDS: Challenges and perspectives". The goal of Candlelight Memorial is to honour and to support people who have been affected by the HIV epidemic through the mobilisation of communities in order to have a for a world where people will no longer die of HIV/AIDS and people living with HIV/AIDS can live healthy lives and be respected in society. The campaign in memory will take place in eight regions of the country notably West, East, Littoral, North West, South West, South and Centre regions. Among the activities to mark the event is free screening for HIV/AIDS.

In Yaounde free screening exercise kicked off in six health centres from yesterday May 22 and run till Sunday May 27. The different centres are the Yaounde General Hospital, Jamot Hospital, Efoulan Hospital, Biyem-Assi Hospital, Cité Verte Hospital and the Nkoldnongo District Hospital.
