The Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Higher Education have jointly signed a protocol of agreement to train meteorologists. The agreement was signed on 10th October 2014 in Yaounde.
According to the protocol of agreement, engineers in meteorology will be trained in the National Advanced School of Engineering (ENSPY) in Yaounde.
During the occasion, the Minister of Transport Robert Nkili said it is the wish of the Head of States to train engineers of meteorology at the school of engineering and the sum of 200 million will be disbursed to begin this program in 2015.
The program will enable Cameroonians to have a mastery of climate change and weather forecast. According to the agreement, the university will contribute valuably and concretely in improving the living conditions of the people.
The protocol of agreement marks a long process of cooperation between the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Higher Education.
The cooperation envisages the creation of a Civil Aviation Institute in partnership with China and a cycle for the training of engineers of meteorology, civil aviation and maritime sectors; domains for which Cameroonian youths are trained abroad.
The agreement was signed at a time when the construction of the National Meteorological Centre in Douala has entered its third phase.
During a four-day visit in Douala, the Minister of Transport Robert Nkili appreciated the structure that will likely serve as the Central African Regional Meteorological Centre if Cameroon be selected among many other countries.
Even though Mr Robert Nkili felt fulfilled with the work done so far he reiterated that much needs to be done in terms of finishing and equipping the building.
Mr Robert Nkili also made a brief stop at the Department of Maritime and Water Affairs and Inline Water Waves. During this brief stop, the Director of the Centre, Madame Enow Judith briefed the Minister on the functioning of her service.
The National Meteorological Centre which is situated at Bonanjo is a magnificent complex made up of a conference hall and offices.
During this four-day visit, the transport boss will preside over the opening session of the Sub-Regional Seminar on the Facilitation of Transport within the sub-region.
