Meva’a Ndouga pleads not guilty

The second hearing was fixed for February 5, 2015, pending the execution of warrants and for the prosecution witnesses to appear in court.

Meva’a Ndouga Dieudonnée Junior has pleaded not guilty in the embezzlement case pitting the State of Cameroon and the Cameroon Postal Services (CAMPPOST) against him and four others. He made the plea during the first hearing of the case that took place at the Special Criminal Court in Yaounde on January 20, 2015.

According to the Committal Order from the Examining Magistrate’s Chamber, Ze Jean Blaise, Meva’a Ndouga Dieudonnée, Oyono Oyono Timothée, Abessolo Gervais and Wodjo Assoumou François Moïse, are accused of embezzling FCFA 2 billion belonging to CAMPOST.

The alleged crime happened between 2009 and 2013. Meva’a Ndouga Dieudonnée Junior, Oyono Oyono Timothée, Abessolo Gervais and Wodjo Assoumou Francis, were accomplices in embezzling the following amounts: FCFA 1,772,041,718 for Meva’a Ndouga Dieudonnée Junior, FCFA 446,039,941 for Oyono Oyono Timothée, FCFA 311,301,223 for Abessolo Gervais and FCFA 53,990,656 for Wodjo Assoumou François Moïse.

The money is alleged to have been paid into accounts in some banks in the country. The acts are contrary to Articles 74, 97 (1b) and 184 (1) of the Penal Code. Out of the five accused, only Meva’a Ndouga Dieudonnée Junior appeared in court.

The hearing, which was presided by a panel of judges led by Justice Nyoh Matthias, began with the verification of the prosecution and the defence benches. On the prosecution bench, CAMPOST was absent.

Advocate General, Jean Claude Taghim, pleaded with the court to give them some time to prepare the list of prosecution witnesses. Defence Lawyer, Barrister Ze Olinga, said his client had no witnesses.

The presiding judge adjourned the case to February 5, 2015, pending the execution of warrants issued by the Examining Magistrate for the accused and for the prosecution witnesses to appear in court.
