The former Chief of Division for Ex-service Men and War Victims for South Region was given military honours in Yaounde on March 4, 2016. The atmosphere at the esplanade of the Military Headquarters Brigade in Yaounde on Friday March 4, 2016, was gloomy as colleagues, family members and friends of Late Colonel Jinka John Fungwa came to pay him their last tribute as he began his eternal journey to the world beyond. The senior Gendarmerie officer was until his death on January 25, 2016 in Yaounde the Chief of Division for Ex-service Men and War Victims for the South Region.
The military honours was officiated by the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence in charge of Ex-service Men and War Victims, Koumpa Issa in the presence of the Governor of South Region, Felix Nguelle Nguelle, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence and a host of other senior military officers.
In the eulogy presented by Colonel Yamba Guillaume, the Director of General Affairs at the Secretariat of State for Defence in charge of Ex-service Men and War Victims, the late Colonel Jinka was described as a committed officer whose experience enabled him occupy several posts including Head of the Communications, Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the Secretariat of Ex-service men and War Victims as one of the pioneer officers of the newly created secretariat.
Born on 22 February 1962, the fallen soldier entered the Yaounde Military Academy (EMIA) in 1990 and graduated with the grade of Lieutenant in 1992. He rose to the grade of Colonel on July 1, 2015. The mortal remains of Late Colonel Jinka was lowered to his final resting place on Saturday March 5, 2016 in Bamenda, in his native North West Region.
