Mindef - Fcfa 198.522 Billion to Strengthen Territorial Defence

The Defence Ministry also plans to intensify the protection of persons and property in 2014.

The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Edgard Alain Mebe Ngo'o on December 1, 2013 night defended the 2014 draft budgetary allocation of the Ministry of Defence in the Committee on Finance and Budget of the National Assembly. This was in the presence of the Vice Prime Minister, Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Relations with the Assemblies, Amadou Ali and Finance Minister, Alamine Ousmane Mey.

The draft budgetary allocation stands at FCFA 198.522 billion against FCFA 194.079 in 2013. The Ministry intends to carry out its lofty programmes with a public investment budget of FCFA 86 billion and function with FCFA 189.922 billion.

In the presentation the Minister made to the committee members, he explained that the budgetary allocations are distributed in four key programmes. The first programme has to do with the strengthening of territorial defence. The second programme is the protection of persons and property. The two other programmes include participation in national development efforts and governance and institutional support within the Defence Sub-sector. He said the draft budget and the programmes took into account the socio-political and economic context of Cameroon and many long, medium and short -term challenges. He mentioned challenges like materializing the vision 2035 to make Cameroon an emerging country which is democratic and united in diversity, security of the national territory and the country's sovereignty over its natural resources, improving business climate and combating insecurity.
