A total of 14 projects were inspected by Jean Claude Mbwentchou who insisted on impeccable finishing touches before 20 January, 2014.

The latest Ministerial caravan in Buea inspecting projects under realisation to mark Cameroon's 50 years of reunification was that of the Minister of Housing and Urban Development (MINDHU), Jean Claude Mbwentchou.

The Minister combed through 14 face-lifting projects in Buea and Limbe on 11 January, 2014, including streets, roads, parking lots, Buea's Sub-Divisional Office, UB's amphi-5000, and the anniversary monument. Accompanied by the South West Regional état major headed by Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai, Minister Mbwentchou inspected the anniversary monument near the Governor's Office and was visibly impressed that engineers were rounding off their work.

The MINHDU sboss however, proposed that the edifice be given a tourism face after the event with an entrance-gate and refreshing facilities built around it to make it sustainable. Minister Mbwentchou visited the University of Buea's amphi-5000 under rehabilitation to host cultural activities during the anniversary celebration. While he expressed satisfaction with his engineering eye, he urged that all be tidied up latest 20 January for technical reception of the works. In sum, the Minister appreciated the various projects in their final stage but insisted that finishing touches be irreproachably tidy.

Last Instructions:

Chairing a working session at the Governor's conference room after visiting the projects, the Minister noted that his mission was chiefly to inspect additional works requested by the National Organising Committee following their field assessment of last 5 December. As

observed by the Minister, the essential projects for the 50th anniversary celebration in the domain of urban roads had been considered finished.

Supplementary works, the Minister stated, include the "triumphant" new access to the Governor's Office, rehabilitation of the UB's entrance road and their amphi-5000 in lieu of the open-air initially foreseen beside the ceremonial ground at Clerks Quarters. He affirmed that the new works were practically over and that he instructed the contractors to effectively tidy up expecting the overall technical reception latest 20 January.

In so doing the contractors must level, compact and mark the various parking lots in Buea to indicate entry and exit points. By the Minister's instructions all trees and poles at the entrance to the University of Buea and around their amphi-5000 must be painted systematically up to two metres high with the assistance of the Buea Council. At the level of the ceremonial ground all pot-holes must be filled up and the access to tribune - B should be neatly tarred. As stated by the Minister, "Buea must cease to be only the Headquarters of a Sub-Division; it is the Headquarters of a Region."
