Minister Stresses Standards in Contract Execution

Pioneer North West Public Contracts officials were commissioned to check corruption in the sector.

The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Public Contracts, Abba Sadou, has assured the population of the North West Region that as from 2013 the public contract sector will be free of corrupt practices. The Minister gave the assurance during the installation of the pioneer officials of the Public Contract Ministry in the North West Region.

The new Regional Delegate, Ediage Herbert Apande, and Nji Viola Nyo, Head of Brigade were equally challenged to be assiduous, promote team spirit and ensure the putting in place of new structures for the smooth functioning of the ministry in the region. Minister Abba Sadou said the Head of State Paul Biya created the Ministry of Public Contract so as to ensure the proper execution of projects. In very strong words he declared that the 30 per cent syndrome offered to administrators has been put to an end and that any administrator asking for money from any contractor for no work done will face the law. He added that a hotline will go operational as from next year for people to call and report cases of corruption in their area adding that any case reported will be treated as a matter of urgency.

To the newly installed he called on them to fight against all forms of corruption in the sector calling on them not to be lured into any corrupt practices. He instructed them to be firm, rigorous and be level-headed. He promised total support and called on them to report any case of intimidation be it from administrators or others. "You should not succumb to pressure from any quarter, do your job as prescribed by the new contract code", "I insist, you must launch a true fight to clean the face of the public contract sector" he stated.

The installation ceremony that was transformed into a workshop saw the public asking questions on some pertinent issues about the public contract sector.
