Minister of Agriculture visits Fon Mukete’s plantation

The Mukete Estate in Kumba the South West Region was a likable site to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Essimi Menye where he paid a one day working visit.

After having traversed the palm, rubber, cocoa, and pineapple plantations he made a stop at the cattle range, and finally the Head Office where he unveiled Cameroon’s agricultural plans of producing high-yielding seeds for cassava, maize, vegetables, palm oil and plantains to boost large scale production.

While acclaiming the plantation for its largeness and high productivity and the indelible mark it has left in the private sector, Mr. Essimi Menye called on the local population to inculcate the examples of Senator Victor Mukete whom he conferred the title: “captain in the agro-industrial sector.”

The General Manager of the Mukete Estate, Godfred Mbe Mukete on his part lauded government’s efforts for providing, fertilisers, chemicals and other facilities to the estate while projecting further developments in the plantations as a result of the Minister’s visit.

The Mukete Estate since its creation in 1910 started with cocoa as the main cash crop.

Presently, the plantation can boast of other crops and cash crops such as rubber, palm, pineapple etc and more than three hundred workers who enjoy some social amenities such as water, electricity, camps, schools and health units.

The Minister was accompanied by the Governor of the Southwest Region, Bernard Okalia Bilai.
