The Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, has called on users of services in his Ministry to denounce all acts of corruption they come across.

He made the appeal in Yaounde during an open-day the Ministry organised to sensitise stakeholders on the negative impact of corruption on the national economy. It was in this perspective that the Minister urged citizens to denounce open, subtle and tacit acts of corruption they come across.

During the occasion, the Minister presented boxes in which members of the public would put their written suggestions and denunciations on cases of corruption.

According to the Minister, the boxes that will be distributed to the centralised and decentralised services of the Ministry, will give an opportunity to members of the public to name and shame acts of corruption and their perpetrators in the Ministry.

Corruption, the Minister said, must be fought from all angles because it slows down economic growth and remains an affront to the sustainable management of national resources. To him, the scourge aggravates poverty and fuels inequalities by widening the gap between the poor and the rich.

The Minister said the occasion was an opportunity to discuss issues that favour corruption as well as measures to arrest the cankerworm.

According to the President of the Anti-Corruption Unit in the Ministry, Marie Julie Monkam Nitcheu, nobody can toy with the suggestions that will be put in the various boxes because, all the keys are with the central administration.
