Ministry of Public Health and CHAI open a new page

About 4 million doses of Artesunate, a new malaria treatment shall be supplied in Cameroon from 2014 to 2017 by a non-governmental organisation known as Clinton Health Access Initiative.

This information was made public during the signing ceremony of an establishment arrangement between the Cameroonian government and Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) on July 25 2014.

The Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo and the Chief operating officer of CHAI, signed the establishment arrangement. The agreement, amongst others, include CHAI’s assistance to sick Cameroonians especially those infected by HIV, tuberculosis and Malaria to help curb maternal mortality.

Cooperation between Cameroon and the Clinton Health Access Initiative dates back to June 2004 following a Protocol Agreement between the Institution and the Ministry of Public Health.

CHAI has since 2007, supplied 40,000 free Anti-Retroviral drugs for the treatment of children infected with HIV/AIDS in Cameroon. So far, CHAI has invested 60 billion francs CFA.

The provision of this malaria treatment is in line with Cameroon’s decision to grant free treatment to children under five suffering from malaria.
