Ministry suspends licence issuance to driving schools for a year

Cameroon's Minister of Transport ( MINTRANSPORTS ), Robert Nkili has called for a suspension over a period of 12 months for the issuance of licenses to driving schools in the country, official sources told APA.

This follows an investigation initiated by his department in Yaounde. This operation revealed that 350 driving schools, out of the 442 active ones were not up to standard.

Thus, over 50% of them conduct their activities either in secret or do not have adequate teaching materials, or lack the appropriate vehicles for training clients.

Also, according to official data, most holders of driving licenses have never been in a driving school. They only acquired the licence through dubious means.

Therefore, the MINTRANSPORTS is determined to screen driving school operators to ensure that institutions are operating under the correct principles, ethics and rules.

At the end of this suspension period the ministry will grant approval to qualified ones and will operate under the new term "driving training center" instead of "driving school. "
