Newly crowned Miss Tourism for the Southwest Region, Sirri Nkwente Zuhwomboh Ntseh, has pledged to spearhead community development as a means of promoting Tourism in Cameroon.

Sirri recently took the commitment at the conference hall of Mountain Hotel Buea, after she was elected as the most beautiful girl among a bevy of girls.

The election of Miss Tourism for the Southwest was carried out in prelude to the commemoration of the 35th edition of the World Tourism Day.

This year’s celebration was hinged on the theme “Tourism and Community Development.”

The Economic, Social and Cultural Affairs Adviser at the Southwest Governor’s Office, Julius Tata, said the election of 2014/2015 Miss Tourism for the Southwest Region has been successful, given that a rare pearl was elected.

“The variety of beauty exhibited by the contestants show the necessity of tourism in any economy. For the newly crowned Miss, she has a lot of homework to do as far as tourism is concerned.

It is not all about being crowned Miss Tourism, it entails selling the sector for more development. She certainly has a big task to represent a dynamic region like the Southwest and should not sleep on her laurels,” Tata cautioned.

The Southwest Regional Delegate for Tourism and Leisure, Peter Pel Elangwe, explained to the beauty queen that in order to build stronger and more resilient communities, she must identify and address the needs, assets, and priority of these communities.

“In enhancing Tourism in the Region, community development activities may support infrastructure, economic development projects, among other things,” Elangwe explained.

The Delegate advised other contestants who did not win to muster courage for next year, with the already acquired experience.

The new Miss Tourism, on her part, pleaded with the general public to develop interest in tourism and advised youths to believe in themselves and their cultures, so as to make Cameroon a better place.

“I am very happy to have been elected Miss Tourism for the Southwest, I promise through the help of God to do my best in promoting Tourism in the Region,” Sirri said.

The 1.71 metre tall Sirri is a 19-year-old final year Law student in the University of Buea. Delphine Stephanie Blanche Yimga came second and Delphine Rita Ekane Mesinze was third.
