Missionaries from the Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions have decided to remain in northern Cameroon despite recent incursions by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram.
“The Church is the only institution left to offer humanitarian aid to refugees and displaced persons,” Father Fabio Mussi told the Fides news agency.
“International organizations have withdrawn for security reasons,” he continued.
“We, as [the] Church in Cameroon, are sending food and preparing to dig wells in areas where the authorities have decided to build reception camps.”
