Douala international airport was packed with Muslim pilgrims heading to Mecca and their families who had come to accompany them Thursday on September 25, 2014.
According to reports, out of the 1500 pilgrims registered, 1200 had already taken flight.
This made it seem the entire Muslim community in Douala was to embark on the pilgrimage. The mass of the population at the airport were mostly family members, friends and acquaintances of the pilgrims.
"We were supposed to leave Wednesday September 24, 2014, but here we are, still at the airport", A'oodhu Baba, a pilgrim noted.
"The pilgrimage is an obligation for the Muslim faithful and a pillar of Islam. This is my first time to travel to Mecca because the ticket cost about a million CFA francs. My son gave me the money", Oussena another pilgrim revealed.
"It is an enormous joy for me to go and pray in Mecca. I don't have the words to express what I feel. I thank my brother for this wonderful surprise," said a Lady.
