The US Ambassador to Cameroon, Michael Stephen Hoza has handed over the donation worth training and protection material to the Gendarmerie Training Centre in Mbankomo.
The package was handed over to the Secretary of State in Charge of the National Gendarmerie, Jean Baptiste Bokam on April 5, 2015.
From then it was handed over to the Multivalent Intervention Unit of the National Gendarmerie (GPIGN) in Mbankomo, about 25 km from Yaounde, in the Mefou and Akono Division of the Centre Region.
The equipment for training and intervention, protection, climbing and efficient assistance materials according to the US Ambassador will help fortify and prepare the trainees for the field.
The American diplomat added that the donation was a symbol of good relations between the two countries. While expressing the admiration of the US for Cameroon’s efforts in safeguarding its territory, he promised that his country will always stand by Cameroon.
His Excellency Michael Stephen assured the National Gendarmerie that the US will continue to offer more equipment, training and proposals on what is needed to bring peace to Cameroon and the Central African sub-region.
On his part, Jean Baptiste Bokam said the arrival of equipment was timely as it will help improve the capacity of officers and men to face up to Boko Haram attacks. He called on the officers to make good use of the equipment and to be of good conduct.
