The 11th meeting of the national tourism Council took place Thursday, December 18 at the star building with the objective to evaluate the target of the government, which is to host at least two million foreign tourists and six million domestic tourists per year, by 2020.

These figures obviously are still distant to the Cameroonian authorities, which must, in the words of Prime Minister Philemon Yang, implement the roadmap established in this area, and especially demonstrate inventiveness for results despite the security risk in the basins of Lake Chad and the Gulf of Guinea.

For Bello Bouba Maigari, Minister of State in charge of tourism and recreation (Mintoul), a new strategy in a threatened environment comes in three axes: facilitate the granting of visas, promoting internal tourism and redirecting visitors to other parts of Cameroon.

Just as after the session of August 7, members of the national tourism Council, endorsed the continuation of the development of new sites, the rehabilitation of establishments such as the Mountain Hotel and Parliamentarian Flat in Buea, as well as the hotel of Ebolowa.

The country hosted last year 912,000 tourists, against 817,000 in 2012, an increase of about 100,000 tourists a year, or 10% more.
