A third meeting to this effect took place on Wednesday January 20, 2015.

All associations and committees involved in organising and coordinating activities geared towards the 49th Edition of the National Youth Day in the country have been urged to be proactive, creative and dynamic in meeting the needs of youths as well as dealing with the most challenging problems amongst them.

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Bidoung Mkpatt made the plea yesterday, January 20, 2015 during the third preparatory meeting ahead of the National Youth day come February 11.

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education noted that this year’s Youth Day is being organised amidst diverse challenges such as security concerns at certain places along the country’s boundaries to curb terrorists activity, methods and training to accelerate the national campaign of Civic Education and National Integration and the fact that the country is hosting for the first time the Commonwealth Youth Ministers’ Conference from February 7 to 13, 2015.

Given that the national harmonised Youth Day programme is already known, Bidoung Mkpatt said it was time for the different organising committees to present their level of preparedness in a bid to evaluate what has been done and that which is left to be done.

During the meeting, it was revealed that all is set for the Commonwealth Youth Ministers’ Conference with the majority of Ministers indicating their presence not only for the conference but also participating in activities that mark Youth Day celebration in the country.

Information that filtered from the meeting indicated that the official launching of Youth Day activities will take place in Bafut in the North West Region and Fifinda in the South Region on February 2 and 5 respectively.

The youth week will be marked by citizenship caravans, volunteerism activities, and youth excellence evenings among others. During the week, youths will be involved in civic education activities for road users such as teaching people how to use the zebra crossing way, respect traffic lights amongst others.
