National road board members meet for 16th session

The 16th session of the National Road Board held on the 27th May 2014 in Yaounde and chaired by Prime Minister Philemon Yang focused mainly on the assessment of the 2013 programming and the validation of the 2014 plan of action.

Board members expressed satisfaction with the level of execution of some major projects in the Centre, Adamawa and North regions budgeted in 2013.

The assembly also saluted contributions from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in the opening of some farm to market roads.

The session discussed the different conventions signed with development partners in a bid to improve on the country’s road infrastructure, noting that improved roads have significantly deduced the number of road accidents registered.

Still in relation to road accidents, a number of measures have been put in place to discipline road users.

Discussing the 2014 plan of action, the session identified a number of projects in Yaounde, Douala and other secondary towns including Abong Mbng, Bafia, Banyo, Foumban Nkongsamba, Kye-ossi, Foundong and Yabassi to be executed.

Within the frame work of the decentralization process, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has made available CFA 84 million to 17 urban councils for development projects; the fund is from the French Debt Servicing Contract.

In his opening remark, PM Philemon Yang, Board Chair of the Road Fund called on stakeholders to seek ways of optimizing funds allotted for the construction, repairs and maintenance of roads infrastructure in Cameroon by using cheaper or locally produced inputs.
