Social Affairs Minister, Catherine Bakang Mbock, laid the foundation stone on June 19.
Social Affairs Minister, Catherine Bakang Mbock on July 19, 2013 officially laid the foundation stone of a multipurpose complex in Bamenda to serve the nation's ageing people.
She congratulated the promoters of the project, "Living Alternatives For The Ageing" (LAFTA) and its founder, Elizabeth Makwang Mofor, for her commitment to erect the project which addresses the concerns of ageing people.
According to Minister Bakang Mbock, the project is most welcome and falls within a partnership between the civil society and government to ensure social inclusion and quality life for all including the welfare of elderly people. Located in the neighbourhood of Bamendankwe, the project is dedicated to elderly persons with the conviction that they are the "memory of the nation."
Inspired by the vision to give hope to the ageing people, the promoter and founder of LAFTA, Elizabeth Mofor said the modern structure would be imposing and futuristic. She explained that the project was conceived to promote economic growth and ensure better life for all. She appealed for partnership to ensure the sustainability of the complex that will feature pig farming activities, special toothpaste manufacturing for people aged 50 years, a training centre for geriatric personnel and a guest residence.
Credited as the humanitarian Centre for the Ageing that promotes and handles the ageing with care and kindness, LAFTA also aims at ensuring better living for the ageing. "The project that is expected to preserve their dignity and make them still feel useful to society, has been designed to encourage inter-generational activities for mutual benefits," explained Elizabeth Mofor. Around with administrative and traditional blessings for the project were the Permanent Secretary in the Governor's Office, Monono Wolua, Senators Simon Achidi Achu and Fon Teche Njei as well as SDF National Chairman, Ni John Fru Ndi, alongside traditional rulers and a cross section of North West elite.
