New School Year Launched in Yaounde Medical Faculty

The official reopening of the 2013-2014 academic year took place on Monday, December 23, 2013.

Medical students of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences in the University of Yaounde 1 have been told to put man at the forefront of their career.The Minister of Higher Education, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo, made the call on Monday December 23, 2013 in Yaounde during the official reopening of the 2013-2014 academic year of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (FMBS).

The ceremony was an occasion to welcome new students and to integrate them into the institution. Speaking at the occasion, Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo reminded the students of medicine, pharmacy and dentistry on the need for perspicacity, willingness and endurance in their studies. He called on them to make the quest for excellence and competence their motto throughout their career.

The Minister assured the students that the government is committed to substantially improve the conditions of medical training in Cameroon, particularly in the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. After the inaugural lesson by Professor Pierre Ongolo Zogo, the best student of the first national proficiency examination for entrance into medical schools, Eko Ondoa Manuela Audrey, was presented to the public.

Last academic year, the FMBS admitted 2,076 students in five fields of study. This year, there are 2,296 students thus 152 new students in medicine, 30 in pharmacy, 100 in dentistry and 67 in other fields.

Professor Jacques Fame Ndongo also visited some projects on campus such as the solar energy buses offered by the Groupe Bolloré and the close to 5,000 square metres wide parcel of land destined for the construction of a free medical centre for students.
