The picture and documentary exhibitions are organised at the Yaounde Conference Centre.
Picture, documentary, artistic and technological exhibitions on the high points of President Paul Biya's 30 years at the helm of power started at the Yaounde Conference Centre, yesterday, November 5.
The Secretary General of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM) Central Committee, Jean Nkuete who opened the exhibitions was shown round the 60 pictures that recall President Biya's 30 years in power. The Chairperson of the Sub- Commission for Picture, Documentary, Artistic and Technological Exhibitions of the CPDM Central Committee, Scientific Research and Innovation Minister, Madeleine Tchuinte, showed the Secretary General round the exhibited pictures as well as the technological exhibitions by CAMTEL and CAMWATER on the modernisation of production equipment to ensure the welfare of Cameroonians.
Any visitor to the Yaounde Conference Centre would immediately be attracted to the pictures that capture the history of the New Deal Government, the different times President Paul Biya took the oath of office, the birth of the CPDM in 1985 and the September 2011 CPDM third ordinary congress. The first pictures that catch attention at the entrance of the exhibition ground concern President Biya's last consultation meeting with his predecessor, President Ahmadou Ahidjo, the handing over of power to Paul Biya and President Biya's first swearing-in ceremony at the National Assembly, on November 6, 1982. Other historic pictures celebrate the excellent relations between Cameroon and the Roman Catholic Church with high points of Pope John Paul II's two visits to Cameroon and that of Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. The consolidation of "democracy of appeasement" is also exhibited with the historic meeting between President Biya and the Social Democratic Front (SDF) National Chairman, John Fru Ndi in Bamenda in December 2010.
The consolidation of Cameroon's excellent relations with friendly countries is portrayed through pictures of high level meetings. Remarkable ones include that between President Biya and various French Presidents, the recent case being that with François Hollande in Kinshasa in October 2012, his meeting with Queen Elisabeth II of Great Britain, former Japanese Emperor, Hiro-Hito, former South African President, Nelson Mandela, former US President Georges, W. Bush , Chinese President , Hu Jintao, among others.
The First Lady, Chantal Biya's humanitarian works are demonstrated through her concern for this year's flood victims in the North and Far North Regions. It is also a marvel to discover the rapid urbanisation of the capital city, Yaounde with pictures of neighbourhoods like Mokolo, Ntaba Nlongkak, Tsinga and Briqueterie before independence.
