Students of form one and two of the Secondary schools will henceforth be evaluated through a new mechanism known as the Criterion Reference Method.

This new method of evaluation is aimed at helping students to be more practical in class.

As such, officials said students will be graded not on how much right their answers are, but on the arguments raised to reach the answers they give and on whether they respect exams norms.

It is quite different from the old method- the non-reference method where teachers will have to select just the right answers on students’ scripts without testing the reasons behind the answers.

Based on this situation, officials said the new method of evaluation will help trap out lazy students who are always eager to cheat during examinations.

The new method will be implemented till the form one and two students attain examination classes.

Facilitators of the seminar were six pedagogic inspectors who, through the Ministry, obtained an intense training on the Criterion Reference Method in Belgium.

They have trained some pedagogic inspectors who are expected to, later on, train other inspectors and teachers in the regions.

This seminar falls in line with the Ministry’s objectives of attaining professionalism.
