Nfon Mukete
Cameroon's eldest Senator has made startling declarations regarding recent developments within the CPDM party that touch on his person, family and achievements.
The Nfon bared his mind to reporters on February 8, 2016 following a controversial joint CPDM Sections conference for Meme Division in Kumba to endorse President Biya for the 2018 Presidential election.
The conference that was organised by former Minister, Benjamin Itoe, without the approval of the Senator, has since raised more political trouble for Meme Division.
Being his first declarations ever since the party reorganised its basic organs at the close of 2015, Nfon Mukete said he was begging the party to do a rerun of the elections in his constituency.
The traditional ruler said his main concern is the manner in which elections were organised in Meme IA.
According to Nfon Mukete, militants of the Meme IA Section were not given the right to freely vote in the last reorganisation exercise of the party. Mukete said his plea is to have the elections re-conducted in the Section and clear the confusion in the air.To him, whoever wins in a properly organised election will enjoy the support of the militants.
“I am surprised that the CPDM will condone illegality. The supposed winner even came third in the elections. As honorary member of the Central Committee, this is my fief and chiefdom, I find it unacceptable. This matter should be taken to the National Chairman of the party because things like this are destroying the party. I don't want to know what happened and I don’t even want to go on to the people who were allowed to conduct the elections.”
The traditional ruler bemoaned the fact that some of his tribesmen such as Dickson Eseme, Adibola Sona, Eseme Njei, Emanuel Mukete and John Mewanu, among others, are Bafaws of no standing. He urged the party to investigate all those fronting to love the party now and they will discover that they are people who fall short of CPDM ideology.
He said the same people claiming to front for the party constitute those who campaigned for the opposition in the 2013 Elections. The Nfon declared: “With due humility, I feel the elections failed to reach the standard of transparency as expected. It is impossible for me to work with the person they have named. I don't consider him as a choice of the militants. Let the party verify. I am begging for my militants to be given a chance. Benjamin Itoe and the rest babbled, my party cannot sink to that level.”
Detractors Want People To Believe Muketes Are Unpopular
Flaring over the abusive use of his name, the Senator said the Muketes are not unpopular as detractors want the regime and the people to believe.
He declared that it is not his fault that, all his life, he and his children have been working hard to merit their achievements. Mukete disclosed that, even at 98, he still goes to the farm to work.
The Senator declared that, while he served as executive Board Chairman of the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC, for over 22 years, he never used his office to employ any of his children nor relative. He said others who succeeded him in the likes of Endeley and other Board Chairs have done so, yet detractors keep trailing his family.
Benjamin Itoe Should Not Destroy Biya's Image
Quizzed on what transpired in the controversial motion of support to Biya, Mukete disclosed that he had asked the former Minister to wait for a suitable time. He stated that such 'ragamuffin' attitudes only work to spoil the image of the Head of State.
He denied contributing FCFA 300.000 to the event as per a list of contributors handed over to the Meme administration. He further averred that, even his son, Collins Ebako, is not anti-CPDM to donate just FCFA 200.000.
Mukete asked what the former Minister, whose name appeared on the list as having donated FCFA 500.000 wants to show. The Nfon, however, laughed over the reasoning that the gang-up could be to show to the Biya government that his family that used to support the CPDM in millions has suddenly abandoned the party. He said his family can never be against a party whose ideology they are so attached to.
He said the issue of Biya getting another mandate is indisputable, but ‘ragamuffins’ should not hijack the pace of things.
Asked if he had any particular message to the public, the Southwest Chiefs’ Conference President declared that he is above petty political manipulations aimed at tarnishing his image.
