Nigeria aids Cameroon train crash victims

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has offered 70 tons of medical supplies to carter for the Cameroonian survivors of the October 21 train crash.

The crash killed at least 80 people and left about 600 others with injuries.

Foreign Affairs minister and Abuja’s envoy to Yaoundé, Ms Khadija Bukar Abba Ibrahim, handed over the donation to the Cameroonian authorities.

Condolence message

“We are here to commiserate with the president, the government and the people of Cameroon over the unfortunate train accident. And to convey healthcare materials for the people that survived the crash,” Ms Ibrahim told reporters in Yaoundé.

Ms Ibrahim, who was received by Cameroon Prime Minister Philemon Yang Wednesday, said she was also bearer of a condolence message from President Buhari to his colleague and brother Paul Biya.

President Biya last month appointed a commission of inquiry to probe the cause of the derailment at Eseka near Yaoundé.

Are so corrupt

But according leading opposition leader, the eight-man commission headed Mr Yang, was made of regime cronies who cannot properly investigate the ghastly crash.

“The commission members are all President Biya’s people and he knows that those ministers are so corrupt, they should be in prison,” said Mr John Fru Ndi, the chairman of the Social Democratic Front party.

He urged President Biya to put in a place a parliamentary commission of inquiry to investigate the crash.
