Nigerian officials visit NGR'rian refugee camp in Minawao

The High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, came to Cameroon to convey the message of compassion and solidarity from president Goodluck Jonathan to fellow refugees in Cameroon.

Minawao camp, located about 15km southeast of the town of Mokolo in Mayo-Tsanaga has almost become a Nigerian village. Nearly 17,000 (16 973 exactly) Nigerians who fled attacks and other abuses by the Boko Haram section live here. Credited with a capacity of 40,000 people, the Minawao camp continues to receive more Nigerians terrorized by veterans of the nebula.

From the perspective of maintaining links with these men, women and children disoriented and affected by this asymmetric conflict, the High Commissioner of the Republic of Cameroon Nigeria on Thursday visited his countrymen held up in Cameroon. Instructed by president Goodluck Jonathan, this visit of Ali Mustapha to the Minawao camp was accompanied by moral comfort.

Accompanied by the Governor of the region of the far North, Midjiyawa Bakari and the prefect of the Department of Mayo-Tsanaga, Raymond Roksbo, Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Cameroon communicated to his countrymen at the Minawao, the message of comfort and solidarity from the Nigerian president.

"Our president instructed me to tell you that he knows that you are in Cameroon, he knows the situation which sent you there, and that the Nigerian Government is trying everything possible to put an end to this situation so that you can return to your country because, no place is comfortable than home" noted Ali Mustapha. The High Commissioner will then acknowledge the recognition of Goodluck Jonathan to the Cameroonian Government and UN agencies for benevolence all this while.

"I ask you to follow the rules put in place by officials of this camp for your best coaching" advised Mustapha. He then invited his compatriots to participate in agricultural and income-generating activities for assistance.

Before leaving the camp of Minawao, the High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, donated items consisting of foodstuffs, products of first necessity and school supplies.

This gesture of solidarity was initiated by the community of Nigerians businessmen in Cameroon. This working visit helped Mustapha to meet with the Nigerian diaspora in the Extreme north of Cameroon. Before leaving Maroua, the High Commissioner visited the headquarters of the UN agencies based in Maroua.
