Observers of the first-ever election of Senators in Cameroon yesterday, April 14, 2013 in the Lekie, Mbam and Inoubou Divisions of Centre Region (Monatélé and Bafia) affirmed the assertion that "All is well that ends well!" Many observers were of the opinion that the elections were void of major irregularities, had good security and motivated councillors.
From observers of Transparency International (TI) to those of the National Organisation of Human Rights, (ONDH) to the National League of Human Rights, Democracy and Governance, (LICAMDH) the Inter-Regional Caravan of Local Government (CICT), New Human Rights (NDA) and Electoral Commission for Independent Citizen (CECI), the April 14 election was unique in all its forms, reason why no major incident was recorded.
It was NDA's Beb Bylinor's ninth time of observing elections and "It was one of the best organised and smooth running elections." Mvogo Opono of ONDH was impressed with the deployment of security forces in Monatélé voting centre. Sylvestre Ateba Ngogo of TI attributed the hitch-free poll in Lycée Techinque et Modern of Bafia to the choice of voters (councillors) and the motivation package that accompanied the exercise.
The election could not be compared to previous ones given its specificity. Sylvestre Ateba Ngogo however acknowledged improvements in the level of organization especially with the quality of indelible ink.
In all, 242 voters were expected in the Lycée Techinque Monatélé in the Lekie Division while 208 were equally expected to cast votes in Bafia.
