Non affected Ebola countries intensify surveillance against disease

A workshop on response practices was recently organized in Douala for the non-affected countries. Even if the Ebola virus has not yet reached their borders. Resultantly, doctors, experts, decision makers and partners from USA, Chad, Mauritania, Togo, Guinea Bissau and Cameroon remain vigilant.

A workshop for national capacity-building on the response to public health events organized by the Center for Diseases and Care (Cdc, Atlanta) took place in Douala. Thanks to the collaboration between WHO and the MOH, participants will acquire practical response techniques.

For Gregory Thome, Deputy Chief of mission at the United States Embassy, the Ebola epidemic is a priority. The United States is committed to the fight against this disease. According to him, it is impossible to operate in isolation.

At the moment, $100 million have been mobilized, for the purchase of protective equipment, to develop mobile laboratories, to take health personnel through health education. The objective of the workshop was to determine new cases and intervene as quickly as possible.

For Georges Alain Etoundi Mballa, Director for the fight against the disease, epidemics and pandemics at the MOH: "we took measures but we must continue the level of preparation, and the opportunity is given to us with the American Government who is very experienced in preparation systems."
