Northwest Region gets third female mayor

Atienjo Bridget Eps Ija has been elected Mayor of Andek Council in Ngie Sub Division Momo Division of the Northwest Region.

She was elected on Monday, February 8, 2016, during an extraordinary session of the Andek council. She replaces Awutia Samuel who died a few months ago.

The Mayor-elect is a teacher by profession was First deputy and acting and has been acting as Mayor since the death of her predecessor.

The elections supervised by Elections Cameroon ELECAM were witnessed by the First assistant Senior Divisional Officer SDO for Momo Fouda Nicaise.

Though the elections went hitch free, there was high-security alertness as forces of law and order were deployed to the Andek council premises.

Atienjo Bridget emerged winner of the elections after grabbing 14 of the available 24 votes while Ajekwa Philip and Dr Agharih Walters went away with 8 and 2 votes respectively.

The Mayor-elect becomes the third in the region after those of Bamenda I and Mbengwi Councils elected during the 2013 municipal elections.

The Andek council is one of the 19 councils managed by the CPDM in the Northwest region.

She now joins the class of elite women in Momo division like her colleague of Mbengwi council Tebe Beatrice, Parliamentarian for Momo East Edna Mbah, recently appointed the Minsiter delegate for Supreme state audit Mbah Acha Rose, sacked Culture minister Ama Tutu Muna and others.
