OHADA law: 24 files pending examination

The Common Court of Justice and arbitration of the Organization for the Harmonization of Business law in Africa (OHADA) started meeting yesterday 4th November 2014.

The hearing which took place in the Supreme Court of Yaounde was presided over by seven judges.

The law experts will be expected to treat 24 procedural files which deal with the conflict of laws, for two days; a good number of these files are from Cameroon.

OHADA is a common court of Justice and arbitration that ensures the consistency in the interpretation of uniform arts.

The court is based in Cote D’Ivoire, but is entitled to hold hearings in any of the 17 OHADA contracting states.

The Common Court of Justice is an administrative and jurisdictional court. Administratively, it is an arbitration centre. Jurisdictionally it functions as a supreme court which rules on appeals.

Its judgements are final and conclusive.
