The Secretary General of la Francophonie closed her 4-day visit with a press conference which was held in the Hilton Yaounde Hotel Thursday, April 16, 2015.
Several public figures like the Minister of Communication Issa Tchiroma Bakary, Minister of External Relations Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, as well as a few big shots of the Francophone media like the CEO of Africa 24 M. Constant Nemali group, took part in the event.
In a particularly dense introductory remark, Ms. Michaëlle Jean returned to the highlights of her visit in the country. "I had a very fruitful discussion with President Paul Biya." Based on our discussions, I found out that this country has a dynamic and diversified economy.
Regarding the atmosphere throughout her four days stay in the country, the SG of the international organization of la francophonie has indicated that despite the roads that were closed, she only saw cheerful faces.
"I saw people along the streets, laughing and smiling... I found a country with immense potential, the 21st century Africa is moving", she recalled. "I'm leaving but with the desire to return soon", she reiterated.
On the other hand, during the questions and answers forum, responding to a concern from the journalist William Bayiha of Spectrum TV, relating to prosecution of some local newspapers after the failover information published on the website of Monde Afrique, about the health of the Cameroonian presidential couple, Ms. Michaëlle Jean asked the author of the question to direct it to the Minister of Communication Issa Tchiroma Bakary who was present at the premises at the time of the exchange.
About the fate of the schoolgirls abducted by the Boko Haram at Chibok, and responding to a journalist's question, the SG of the OIF expressed her concern: "How could we achieve such a degree of powerlessness, while we have even the possibility of spotting a pebble in a desert.
As a major revelation, Ms. Michaëlle Jean announced the implementation of IFADEM, a Training Institute of the masters of schools remotely in Cameroon.
