More than 300 hundred people have been rendered homeless by the inferno that occurred on December 28, 2014.
The inhabitants of Shell Creek, a locality in the vicinity of Idabato in the Bakassi peninsular of Ndian Division, are still to come to terms with the ravaging fire that consumed some 106 houses in the early hours of Sunday December 28, 2014.
The fire outbreak that has left enormous casualties including the death of a 5-year old child with two others injured is said to have resulted from a kitchen where fish was being smoked. Reports from Bakassi state that a woman who is reportedly at large, forgot to put out the fire after smoking her fish and went to sleep.
Informed about the incident, the Senior Divisional Officer for Ndian, Chamberlain Ntou’o Ndong and his close aides went to the scene of the fire outbreak to assess the damages and comfort the victims. According to the SDO, considerable material damages have been recorded which by press time where still being evaluated.
It should be noted that this is not the first time fire is ravaging homes in Idabato Sub-division. The Shell Creek is just having its turn now after Idabato a few years back. The effect of fire outbreak in the area is usually enormous given the fact that most houses are constructed with thatch and are usually chucked up in one area.
