The Board of Trustees of the Catholic University Institute of Buea, CUIB, is not only warm about the excellence of their students and graduates but promoting the spirit of entrepreneurship, which is their soul.
This is the message of the university’s Board of Trustees, echoed by the President of CUIB, Rev.Fr George Jingwa Nkeze at the close of the Tuesday, July 1, 2014 meeting that took place in the Wokaka Campus, Buea.
Inspired by the Board’s encouragement on the progress achieved so far, Fr Nkeze said the varsity’s management has been tasked to ensure a competitive atmosphere within the student milieu.
“We must remind our current students and graduates that they must show honesty, morality and spirituality in what they do. Why do we have microfinance institutions, banks and they are collapsing? Our students should not go out, and the problems continue because they are not morally strong. They must be honest and be ready to die for the country. There are already calls that we should introduce a course on patriotism. Cameroonians should love their country and not destroy the institutions,” he explained, adding that it is a challenge from the Board to the executive management of CUIB.
Fr. Nkeze projected an enrolment of 1,500 students for the 2014/2015 academic year, indicating that they are set for the new school year.
“We have the standards parents, students and enthusiast of higher education are looking out for. We are stepping up our Higher National Diploma, HND, standards while giving an opportunity to the poor to get good education. We have brought our HND fee to FCFA 300,000, which is the lowest across Cameroon. We are giving good standards to parents and students who cannot afford the Bachelor of Science, Bsc. Programme. That is the excitement we are putting in place,” he noted.
He will re-echo the vision of the Proprietor and Chancellor of CUIB, Mgr. Immanuel Bushu, Bishop of Buea Diocese, which is empowering the young people of Cameroon.
“Young people can do great things if they believe in themselves and from there, Cameroon will move forward and be proud of Cameroon. The students of CUIB must be proud of themselves,” Fr. Nkeze mentioned.
Mgr. Bushu, chair of CUIB’s Board of Trustees was upbeat that the university is standing up to the vision he had, saying that they are right there and 90 percent into the expectations.
The Board of Trustee members of CUIB discussed the question and the relevance of a virtual library, which is critical for the university, the need to reinforce the positioning of CUIB in the international scene, keeping to international standards and the meticulous preparation of the pioneer commencement ceremony slated for December 6, 2014.
