It is a dream come true for Buea residents as the investment in roads has easesd movement in town.
The major fear often expressed over the years in Buea, is now allayed should a major disaster happen requiring mass departure of persons. This was Buea lying at the foot of the second tallest and volcanic peak in Africa, Mount Cameroon with only one outlet leading in and out of the town.
Thanks to the reunification feast billed for Buea, a total of 13 road-stretches have been rehabilitated to decongest circulation in the city. The roads total some 31.3 kilometers and have cost the State of Cameroon a colossal CFA 13.118.095.749.
As of 10 December, the projects were over 80 percent finished according to a report released to Cameroon Tribune by the South West Regional Delegate of Housing and Urban Development, Oben Francis Essie. But for the Buea Town-Catholic Church - ENAP piece of the road that is still lagging at a crucial 1.58 percent execution, the people of Buea would have heaved a sigh of relief over their circulation difficulties.
Significant relief
Development analysts say the new road network in Buea has greatly decongested the city of over 200.000 inhabitants making it a futuristic investment. Chief among the roads rehabilitated in Buea is the seven-kilometre Buea Town (Afosi bookshop) - Bokwai - Muea stretch meant as an outlet from Buea to the Ekona, Muyuka and Kumba destinations.
Equally, the Great Soppo (Moki Garage) - GS Small Soppo-Bulu Blind of more than four kilometers has greatly solaced the population of Buea as one does not need to circumvent the torturous distance from Mile 17 to Clerks Quarters and finally Small Soppo. The Small Soppo population has also jumped for joy with the tarring of their stretch to Mile Four in Limbe which reduces considerably the tedious one hour journey through Mile 17 - Mutengene Ombe - Limbe, to only about 20 minutes by bike or car.
The Molyko thick student population is significantly relieved with the 1.3-kilometre Malingo Junction-Mile 18 stretch leading to Bomaka, Muea and other thickly inhabited neighbourhoods of Molyko. In the same light, service seekers from the Governor's Office no longer have to meander between the Police Headquarters, the Military and the Regional Delegation of Communication to gain access but can now quickly shoot from the Police Junction straight to the Regional Boss' Office. From the Federal Quarters through West Farms to GHS Bokwaongo and Long Street is also no longer a nightmare as commuters now have more ease boarding taxis and saving time.
At the onset of the reunification story, the inhabitants of Buea yearned for many more roads in and out of the town. Now that their dream is near realization, the only question remains as to the durability of the projects being executed.
