Over 3,000 Bread Confiscated

Mon, 30 Jun 2014 Source: Cameroon Tribune

The Control Brigade of the Littoral Regional Delegation of Trade is cracking down on artisanal bakeries producing bread that do not respect the prescribed norms. According to the Regional Delegate, Simon Belinga Omgba, apart from controlling the price and quality of bread, the weight is another vital aspect that is strictly controlled. With the authorisation of the State Councils in whose territories the Control Brigade operates, a crackdown on some bakeries has led to the withdrawal of over 3,000 bread (mostly baget). To him, "baget" sold at FCFA125 has a prescribed weight of 100g but some bakeries, especially artisanal ones that operate clandestinely between 8pm and 3am go contrary to the norms. The confiscated bread, the delegate reiterated is not of bad quality but for the weight that is inadequate. While the crackdown continues, breakfast in some orphanages in the port city is guaranteed.
