The humanitarian organization drew up on Monday a staggering report of the crisis the war in CAR has raised at its headquarters in Yaounde. It lightly revealed the extent to which refugees suffer during their escape. These refugees are up to 116,000 people, including 86,000 registered in the region of the East-Cameroon.
"These populations had suffered extreme violence before arriving in Cameroon and are in deplorable health conditions. Widely dispersed, some have still received no humanitarian assistance. Malnutrition remains a major problem for children under the age of five years and on some sites, 35% rates are still to be deplored," reveals Laetitia Martin, responsible for Communication with Doctors without borders-Cameroon.
This was made know during a press conference organized by Msf-Cameroon, Monday 29 July last, in Yaoundé in order to address this very worrying security situation to East. Per week, one saves on average 4.077 consultations, 90 cases of hospitalization and 187 malnourished children in intensive nutrition therapeutic centres (NITC).
This is what pushed Jonathan Irwin, Msf head of mission, to say that "the health situation there remains alarming." Refugees are from mostly rural areas of the CAR, including Bouar, Bossangoa, Yaloké, Boda, Bossantélé, Baoro, indicates Gervais Marcial Mbogne, Msf nurse. Adding that, 'they were obliged to travel long distances on foot for months, and merely consuming cassava roots or meat of beasts killed along the road, as food”.
Despite the constant influx of refugees in Cameroon, Msf strives to provide medical assistance, which is in conformity with the efforts from the Ministry of health.
