Some one hundred years ago, the Basel mission brought the gospel to Ndop plain in 1912 through the late Petro Munkau with their mission station in Babungo in 1914, therefore situating the celebration of the centenary in Babungo.

This grand historic event, which took a spiritual dimension recently, was celebrated in the presence of the representatives of the moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon, the Reverend William Abwenzoh, synod clerk of the PCC.

While addressing the Christian community of Babungo, who turned out in their numbers, the moderator through his representative, the Rev Abwenzoh, reminded all that even as they celebrate, they should they should remember the common mission of the church and the sacrifices made by the pioneers to bring the gospel to Babungo in spite of the language barriers. Such a celebration he went further, should encourage the Christians to consolidate their successes and come out with different strategies to evangelise more and work for the holistic growth of Babungo.

The PCC leader urged all to put hands on duck to maintain peace while refraining from false teachings and other vices. All were therefore called to be wise stewards and bring others to God’s kingdom while holding in high esteem Bible studies, prayer and fellowship.

Recounting some of the major fallouts for the 100 years of the gospel in Babungo and Ndop in general, the parish chairperson of Babungo, Elder Nsoseh Nchnaida, was glad to note that, so many churches and schools have been opened, many of their languages used to facilitate the understanding of the gospel like the New Testament is already available in the Babungo language, and most importantly, many of their sons are daughters are proud to have passed through Basel mission schools that started in Futoh, Babungo in 1943.

Also, the Babungo parish has witnessed enormous growth with four congregations, two prayer cells and 800 communicants. They however, craved the need for more PCC establishments in the village.

The Presbyterian Secretary for Ndop, the Rev Nganji Christian, thanked God that by faith the Basel mission sacrificed a lot in terms of money and personnel to bring the gospel to Babungo. After such a unique event, the servant of God hopes this will put an end to different bottlenecks faced in the area so that the Christians can work together for the good of the entire Babungo Fondom and the PCC as a whole.

It should be noted that the event was marked by the readmission of over 30 backsliders to Christ and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper.
