Prime Minister of Cameroon, Philemon Yang
The Prime Minister sacked the director of the Laquintinie Hospital, marking his distance from the official position of the Government.
Jean II Dissongo is no longer the director of the Laquintinie Hospital in Douala. He was fired on April 12, 2016, following a decree signed by Prime Minister appointing Prof. Louis Richard Njock, as the new head of the hospital.
The decision of Philemon Yang falls exactly one month after the drama of the tragic death of Monique Koumatekel. This woman carrying a twin pregnancy, died on March 12 and whose belly was opened at the Laquintinie before the indifferent eyes of the staff.
The head of government thus decided in his own way to judge on the debate as the family and the government did not agree on the circumstances of the death of this young woman. La Nouvelle Expression (LNE) of April 13 thinks that the PM disavowed his government.
First, the Minister of Public Health. André Mama Fouda, who, had made a trip to the hospital, the next day rejected the blame on the family, which in his opinion, is responsible for the death of Koumatekel, who in his opinion, had already died before arriving at Laquintinie.
LNE recalls in this respect that “Similarly, to disengage the responsibility of the medical staff present on that day, the Minister was quick to dwell on the precarious condition which would have brought the lady in several hospitals. All without questioning the reception that was reserved for this family in distress. “
To support his colleague, the Minister of Communication also conducted a press conference. “Issa Tchiroma, the great communicator of the Republic, gave a press conference. Besides the issues that were burning lips around this drama, the Minister during the meeting had also ruled out the responsibility of the medical profession, however, to expatiate on political tracks.
While politicians, like the millions of Cameroonians, took to the streets to say no to this horror, the minister had seen that gesture as an instrumentalisation by the opposition parties“.
Philemon Yang has thus given his position. In total contradiction with his government.
