SCNC official disown purported converts. An SCNC official told the Journal that the purported converts were CPDM militants which Atanga Nji Paul had organized to pose as SCNC activists.

As the alleged ‘decamped’ SCNC youths embraced the CPDM, they claimed that they were being misled by elderly SCNC activists to join the secessionist group, “but we have finally come to our senses” after Paul Atanga Nji, CPDM Mezam I section president, who is Minister of Special Duties at the Presidency cum Permanent Secretary of the Security Council, sensitized them. Said one of the alleged defectors.

For her part, Rose Amando said she has finally realized that the only party she finds authentic is the ruling party; the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement and so decided to join the CPDM to achieve development.

Addressing the new ‘converts’ and Rose Amando cladded in CPDM uniforms amidst a standing ovation, Atanga Nji who denounced SCNC vehemently, stressed that the pressure group is an illegal organization and so everybody militating in the SCNC is doing so at his or her own risk.

“In Cameroon, there are over a hundred legalized political parties and so any Cameroonian has the right to choose any of the parties, not the illegal so-called SCNC.” Atanga said.

While hailing the new converts, Atanga said the CPDM is an open party, reason why everyone is free to join at any time and would be received with open hands. He called on militants to give room for more people to join the party “given that politics is a game of numbers.”

Last Thursday’s anniversary was marked by the presence of 32 horses which Atanga said signified the 32years of President Paul Biya at the helm of the nation.
